2220 North Terrace Avenue Milwaukee, WI 53202
The red-tile-paved terrace directly outside of the Dining Room, Great Hall and Library is flanked by Palladian style pavilions. It’s a great place to view the moonrise over Lake Michigan — hence its name, Terrace of the Moon. A wide stone balustrade forms the terrace wall and defines the staircase down to the lawn. The terrace provides a perfect summer space for sun-loving plants in imported terracotta pots, to add beauty and to supply the Smith family household with culinary and medicinal herbs. Lemon trees are potted on each side of the terrace doors.
